Adam Warlock is finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After teasing the character in a post-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, writer-director James Gunn has chosen actor Will Poulter to play the mighty hero of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Warlock’s beginnings in Guardians Vol. 3 has never been questioned. As early as 2017, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had no problem confirming this. “[Adam Warlock’s arrival] will not be before Guardians 3, ” Feige told io9 ahead of the release of Avengers: Infinity War, which was based on Infinity Gauntlet comics. “Adam is not part of Infinity war, which he is of course in the comics, but James [Gunn] always liked Adam Warlock a lot, and our version of Infinity war is the culmination of all the stories we’ve told so far.
Poulter himself has had a pretty fascinating history so far. He debuted in the Sundance darling Son of Rambow then played Eustace Scrubb in the third Chronicles of Narnia movie, The Odyssey of the Dawn Treader. From there he played against Jennifer Aniston and
Ted lasso Jason Sudeikis in We are the Millers before collapsing The maze Runner. Most famous, he appeared alongside Oscar-winning Leonardo DiCaprio in The Coming back and after that, just started showing up everywhere in things like Black mirror: Bandersnatch, midsummer, and more.
Playing Adam Warlock, one of the most powerful characters in Marvel history, is his biggest contract yet. And the inclusion of Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 It certainly looks like these characters, under the watchful eye of James Gunn, could wrap up a trilogy, but there has to be more to come. You don’t just feature Adam Warlock and really, really make waves.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 filming begins soon and is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
