Take the pitchforks, it’s time for an Apple vs. Samsung discussion. Two of the biggest phone brands in the world, each with adorable features, smart designs, and dedicated fan bases, but one does it a lot better when it comes to pre-orders.
Ultimately, pre-orders are just for those who want to get in first, get a new handset before the rest of the world when it becomes available for purchase.
And while Apple treats it this way, offering the option to get your order early, Samsung has experienced it more. In fact, apart from Apple, most of the big phone brands treat pre-orders as a special option for dedicated fans.
The advantages of a telephone pre-order
In January of this year, Samsung launched its Galaxy s21 range. As Apple does now, Samsung initially offered the devices for pre-order to those who wanted their devices delivered on release day.
Where Samsung differed from Apple was what it offered to customers who decided to pre-order. Along with the obvious factor of being the first in line, Samsung has also included a collection of free giveaways – a pair of Samsung wireless headphones and a smart tracker, to be precise.
On top of that, Samsung has launched a collection of exclusive colors for those who have pre-ordered and, like Apple, has always managed to include trade-in programs and same-day delivery.
Apple, on the other hand, has always avoided this. During the iPhone 12 launch, those who pre-ordered the device would get the phone on release day without any additional perks, and it’s the same with the iPhone 13 launching now.
It’s not just Samsung that took this attitude towards pre-orders, either. OnePlus does it with headphones and Google Stadia subscriptions, Google launched free headphones or Chromebooks before and in its somewhat less restricted days, Huawei’s P30 pre-orders would guarantee you a Sonos speaker.
But why is this important?
Obviously, there is no obligation for a brand to offer anything with their pre-orders, it’s just a chance for fans to get their handsets first. However, Apple is now one of the few brands that does not reward loyal customers for being the first to buy.
It doesn’t undermine Apple’s value iPhone 13 series, and in fact, at their current prices, the iPhone 13 handsets are among the most economical flagships on the market. It also doesn’t make Apple a less attractive option.
In fact, Apple is and always has been separate from its Android competitors, and that’s what sets it apart from the rest. However, each year when the latest iPhone pre-orders from Apple appear, we can’t help but feel that it lacks compared to its rivals.
The good news is that whether you’re in the US or UK, there are plenty of carriers and retailers out there making up for Apple’s lack of deals. Pre-orders from select retailers can get you free gifts, coupons, or big discounts for being the first to enter.
