welcome to TNW Basics, a collection of tips, guides, and tips on how to get the most out of your gadgets, apps, and more.
Last year, WhatsApp rolled out an ephemeral message feature. However, these messages have been visible to the other person for seven days, which is a lot of days for information you want to get rid of.
Here is how you can use it:
- Download the beta version of the Android app – the beta testing program on iOS is closed – or wait for the feature to roll out to the stable version.
- Navigate to the contact or group you want to send this one-time disappearance image to
- Select the image from the library or take a photo from the camera
- Tap the icon displaying ‘1’ in the text box
As WhatsApp’s feature notes info tag, anyone can take a screenshot of the image you sent and keep it forever. However, if they leave the window, the image disappears.
This is a handy feature for sensitive images or documents that you want someone to look at, but not leaving a trace. Happy messaging.
