Mario Kart Live: Home circuit is a good way to spice up your regular running competitions. It brings virtual racing action to the real world with tiny go-karts that zoom around your house on tracks you create yourself. A single set is pretty expensive at $ 100 – especially since you need a Nintendo Switch to use it at all – but now you can grab either one of them. Mario or Luigi set from Amazon for just $ 75. It’s a return to the lowest price in the game, so now is the time to grab it if you’ve been watching it for a while.
Both Home circuit sets come from doors you set up around your house to build your own racetrack, as well as a kart equipped with a camera operated by Mario or Luigi. However, a set only includes one car, so you will need sets if you want to race in IRL with your friend or family member (a single player mode is also supported). You’ll need a bit of space to set up your track – around 10 x 12 feet – but once the track is in place you can use your Switch’s Joy-Cons to control the kart.
You can change tracks just by moving the doors, but the game will make things more difficult by having you run underwater, in an 8-bit world and more. Obstacles in the game will affect your very real kart causing it to slow down or speed up, so you will likely encounter new challenges the very moment you race, even if your IRL track remains the same. And as in traditional Mario kart, you will collect items while walking the track. Home circuit is a compelling add-on for diehards Mario kart fans, but also those who want a new way to experience the game.
