Samsung Launches Galaxy Ring to Enhance Everyday Well-Being: Get the Details

After an intriguing teaser yesterday, Samsung finally physically unveiled the Galaxy Ring during the Mobile World Conference (MWC 2024), sharing additional details about the health and wellness-focused device. Available in three elegant colors – platinum silver, gold and ceramic black – it is expected to be available for purchase later this year.

Unlike the previous reveal in last month’s Unpacked, where only a render of the device was shown, Samsung now offers a physical look at the Galaxy Ring. Initially described as a wellness-centric wearable meant to compete with Oura, the device features a suite of innovative sensors.

Although journalists attending MWC 2024 were not allowed to photograph the Galaxy Ring, additional images provided by Samsung reveal a chunky concave ring, roughly the same size as the Oura. The surprisingly light weight compared to expectations and a range of sizes, from 5 to 13 (S to XL), are details noted by The Verge. The battery capacity varies between 14.5mAh and 21.5mAh, depending on the size, but the durability is still unknown, while the Oura stands out with an autonomy of up to seven days.

As revealed by Dr. Hon Pak, vice president of Samsung, on his blog, the Galaxy Ring will monitor sleep based on heart rate, movement and breathing, offering personalized advice to users based on this information. Additionally, the company will collaborate with partner Natural Cycles, known for tracking fertility on the Galaxy Watch, providing a similar feature to Oura.

Introducing the innovative “My Vitality Score”, the Galaxy Ring will assess users’ alertness, providing feedback through “Booster Cards” containing scientific sleep tips and other data collected by the device.

The Galaxy Ring will integrate the Samsung Health ecosystem and is compatible with the Galaxy Watch. This integration allows the simultaneous use of both devices to monitor health, ensuring more accurate data. It’s worth noting that the Galaxy Ring offers a less intrusive alternative to sleep monitoring, making it a more comfortable choice at night.

In the coming months, more information will be released, including the exact specification of the sensors, prices and launch date. The Galaxy Ring will initially only be compatible with Samsung Galaxy phones, with future plans to expand compatibility to other Android devices. Compatibility with iOS is still under evaluation, as reported by Pak.
